The recently launched James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is the most advanced and sensitive IR telescope ever built. With its $6.5 {m}$ cooled mirror and state-of-the-art instrumentation, it will reach limiting fluxes, spatial and spectral resolutions from 100 to 1000 better than any previous telescope. In my contribution I will review the primary features of the satellite and the planned science goal. I will also report the very first discoveries obtained with the telescope, as scientific observations are supposed to start on July 1, 2022.
